Our Mission
It started at a kitchen table in 1983. Our founders: Marion Brown, Charlotte Gunn, Helen Hodges and Barbara Tucker began what is now Rockbridge Area Hospice. From one patient, and income from bake sales, their effort has grown to support Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County.
Their mission, which stayed in place until 2021 read, "Rockbridge Area Hospice will treat, comfort, and provide supportive care for terminally ill patients and their families to enable them to live life fully."
For the first time in 37 years, our mission statement has been updated to reflect our growing services to the local community. It now reads, "We provide compassionate care and comfort to our neighbors living with serious illness so they and their families can enjoy life for as long as possible."
