Light Up a Life
It’s important to recognize that for those who are grieving the holidays may be an especially difficult time. What is traditionally a time to celebrate with family and friends can be a painful reminder for those who have lost a loved one. If you are grieving, do not feel as if you must pretend you don’t hurt. Be compassionate with yourself. Do only as much, or as little, as you like. Be honest with family and friends regarding your expectations and abilities.
This December 3rd, Rockbridge Area Hospice will hold its 33rd annual Light Up a Life, a non-denominational celebration and illumination ceremony at the American Legion located at 1953 Magnolia Ave in Buena Vista. This memorial event is open to everyone in the community who has experienced a loss, not just those served by Hospice. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with light refreshments and fellowship, followed by a ceremony including responsive and inspirational readings, reflections on those we’ve lost, and a reading of the names of those we remember and honor. We will also light a complimentary, symbolic candle for loved ones no longer with us. An indoor tree illumination will conclude the ceremony and memorial ornaments will be available as a keepsake for those in attendance. Light Up a Life is free to attend, and tickets are not required.
Anyone can honor the memory of loved ones by making a donation for a light on our holiday tree during this special ceremony. Light Up a Life names must be submitted by December 2nd, to assure their inclusion in the ceremony reading list. Each charitable donation helps to ensure that we are able to provide extraordinary care to all of our family, friends and neighbors, regardless of their ability to pay.
